Founded in 1885 by Scottish brothers James and William Rennie, Cathiard Vineyard is today run by Florence and Daniel Cathiard, who took over this iconic Napa Valley estate in 2020.
Ideally situated in the east-facing foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains, this vineyard benefits from cooler mornings thanks to the oceanic influence and natural protection from the afternoon heat. This climate, combined with rich volcanic soil and a fine layer of topsoil, favors healthy vine rooting.
The estate relies on organic farming with a goal of biodynamic conversion, minimizing irrigation thanks to a natural spring and three lakes that maintain natural soil moisture. Their winemaking focuses on preserving the freshness of the wines, with alcohol levels contained between 13.5 and 14.0%, and meticulous work on the texture and finish of the wines, avoiding excessive oakiness.
Each Cathiard wine seeks to express the “silent music” of its terroir, reflecting the Cathiards’ passion for nature and the arts, offering a unique oenological experience where each sip tells the story of the place.
