Founded in 1902, Catena Zapata is the oldest Argentine family winery still in family hands and is known for its pioneering role in reinventing Malbec and in discovering extreme high-altitude terroirs in the Andean foothills of Mendoza. The Catena Zapata family holds more 100-point wine ratings than any other winery in South America, and its Adrianna Vineyard, at 1,500m elevation, is recognized as South America’s ‘Grand Cru’ Vineyard.
Nicolás Catena Zapata is the only South American to have received Wine Enthusiast’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the Decanter’s Man of the Year Award, and Wine Spectator’s Distinguished Service Award. Currently, Dr. Laura Catena, his daughter, runs the winery and the revolutionary Catena Institute of Wine, which focuses on the study of terroir, sustainability and other research findings that will help further elevate Mendoza as a top-quality wine region. Catena Zapata was voted number one in the world at the World’s Best Vineyards 2023 award ceremony. For more information about Catena Zapata, please visit www.catenazapata.com.
