- A collaboration: CARO, the fruit of the work of two families who are experts in their fields
- A rich history, written over generations: today Laura Catena and Saskia de Rothschild are continuing the developments begun by their fathers in 1999 and are committed to sustainable viticulture in particular.
- Altitude, the hallmark of Argentina’s finest terroirs: CARO is made from the best grapes from our vineyards located at the foot of the Andes mountain range and its eternal snows: Altamira (1000m), Gualtallary (1350m) and San Pablo (1400m).
- An Argentinian Grand Cru: CARO is the reflection of an Argentinian Grand Terroir, vinified in the spirit of a Bordeaux Grand Cru.
The idea of forming a partnership between DBR Lafite and the Catena family was born in 1999. The name of the bodega comes from the first syllable of the two families’ names: CAtena and ROthschild. The Catena family share their knowledge of high altitude terroirs and their passion for Malbec. DBR Lafite contributes its century-old experience of Cabernet Sauvignon vinification and the art of blending.
The wines of Bodegas CARO are the perfect expression of the fusion of two cultures:
When the old world merges with the new.
When youth matures with experience.
When exuberance becomes more delicate.
When Bordeaux meets the Andes.
Our grapes come mainly from the Valle de Uco, a cultivated oasis to the south-west of the city of Mendoza, at the foot of the Cordillera Frontale and its eternal snows, and more specifically from the Altamira, San Pablo and Gualtallary areas.
Sustainable viticultural methods and a vinification process that combines tradition and innovation enable the estate to produce top-quality wines that are widely recognised on the international scene. With a varied range, from CARO to Aruma, each wine illustrates the richness of this unique collaboration, ensuring Bodegas CARO a worldwide reputation as a producer of exceptional wines.
